Two LEGO Batman Movie minifigure series can make a coherent paired display. The cases for 71017 and 71020 share the same listed external dimensions, which simplifies shelf planning. The more interesting decision is how to keep the original and second-series lineups recognisable when their yellow backdrops sit beside one another.
Use the shared footprint to establish a pair
Each case is listed at 41 cm wide, 13 cm deep and 11.5 cm high. Side by side, the cases alone therefore occupy 82 cm of width before you allow a gap and access space. Check the available shelf length instead of assuming a visually matched pair will fit.
Aligning their front base edges gives the pair a clear boundary. If the furniture is too narrow, separate shelves can still create a relationship through similar viewing heights and consistent spacing around the cases.

Keep the series identity attached to the product
Choose the case labelled 71017 for the first series and the case labelled 71020 for the second. Their matching external size does not establish that printed panels, supports or all accessory poses are interchangeable.
The galleries show empty complete cases. Compare the tier arrangement and artwork as display components, then check your own collection against the intended series. Do not read an empty product photo as a promise that additional figures are supplied.

Give costumes enough visual space
A costume-led lineup can become crowded even when the feet fit their positions. Set out figures with the capes, headwear and accessories you intend to show. Look along the front row to see whether a broad silhouette masks someone behind it.
Arrange related characters together if that helps the collection read, but let the available clearance decide the final position. A small turn of a handheld item can preserve the character's pose without crossing a neighbouring face.
Decide how you will revisit the collection
If you regularly swap favourites, avoid blocking one case behind the other. Give each a usable opening route and enough nearby space to set aside the cover according to its instructions. A symmetrical shelf is less useful if one entire series becomes difficult to reach.
The minifigure case guide covers access and viewing checks for larger collections. Both Batman Movie displays are sold separately from the LEGO figures and accessories.
